Pay the worst case, take the token
You are charged as though you lost and the token lands in your wallet in the same transaction. Nothing is held back, and nobody is ever left having paid for nothing.
The coin gives the difference back
Thirty seconds later a public beacon publishes the number that settles it, which nobody including us can know in advance. Your wallet confirms once more to record the result, and a win refunds the difference on the spot. Steady skips all of this, because it has nothing to decide.
